Character Design

A Wolpetinger, a hybrid of a hare and a deer, is a monster found in German folklore. I decided to create a cute version of it, with some sort of a mage hat as an accessory.

Process

I started with blocking out the major shapes for this model. Using my block out as base helped me add the details through sculpting and modeling.  After my model was done, I retopologized the sculpted parts and made Low-Poly versions of the modeled ones.  Afterwards, I UV-mapped the whole model and used UDIMs for the first time. Using  substance 3D Painter I painted the body and fur. I also added a soft fur texture to it, a leather texture for the hat and a fabric texture for the bow.

Challenges

I used all the programs I made this model with for the first time.  Also having no prior experience about sculpting in general made sculpting the body and face rather challenging. In addition to that, I added a lot of fur and feathers , which not only took a long time to model but to UV-map as well.

Even with all the challenges and some setbacks due to the lack of experience, I had a lot of fun crating this character.
